letter two
Hello hello!
My current obsession? Communities. What counts as one? How do we form them? What is the magic that creates, sustains, and strengthens communities?
This week
This week has not been the most productive in terms of work (hello Super Mario Odyssey + also the middle of the semester), but I've gotten a bit of sleep and successfully made it to yoga regularly, so I feel like I'm starting to get back on track with my schedule after a few weeks of fighting off illness and fatigue, so that's something. I also have started to find convergence and clarity in my Ford research proposal outline, so that's good! Next week is definitely about fleshing out a lot of different proposals, so even though progress was slow this week, I'm excited about new directions.
I've been reading
I spent a lot of time with critical pedagogy this week, particularly this line about counter-cultural communities of practice, which "develop a critical and engaged citizenry with a democratic sensibility that critiques and acts against all forms of inequality" (Duncan & Andrade, 2008, p.11). I also took a deeper dive into looking at the new 8th grade civics scope & sequence, which is really exciting in terms of the proposed changes, as well as learning more about "unstandardized assessments".
Other things (YA, news, etc)
A concentration-friendly NPR playlist. A beautiful Hamilton visual. Growing up in libraries. Andy Warhol archives. Last Lenny letter!

Tomorrow is my first DAY OFF in a long time. It's totally unscheduled! I'm just going to wake up tomorrow and decide what to do next. Ahh! (Let's be serious - I'm probably going to go to yoga + brunch + the farmer's market. Basic stuff).
Happy weekend!
